Make things, friends & memories!
Have your child spend their 2024-2025 Winter Break meeting new friends & learning tech skills at The Maker Bean Cafe at 1052 Bloor St. West! Using tools such as laser cutters, 3D printers & wood-working tools, and with 1 laptop per child, your children will create something straight out of their imaginations!
We have 2 different themes to choose from: 1) Minecraft + Making Theme, and 2) Maker Theme, with 2 different versions of each, so you can sign your child up for multiple camps, and they won’t repeat the same activity on different theme days!
Winter Break 2024-2025 camp dates & themes are:

- Dec 27: Maker Theme 1
- Dec 30: Minecraft & Making Theme 2
- Dec 31: Maker Theme 2
- Jan 2: Minecraft & Making Theme 1
- Jan 3: Maker Theme 1
For kids 6-12 years old, both experienced & new makers alike.
Kids also head outdoors for at least 1.5 hours per day to Dufferin Grove or Dovercourt Parks (5-minute walks from The Maker Bean) for active games & fresh air. Please ensure your kids are dressed for outdoor time during the winter.

Camps run 9 AM – 4 PM daily, drop off from 8:50 AM, pick up promptly at 4 PM
Themes
Maker Theme 1 - Motorized Dog Sled
Travel in style with your furry best friend! In this hands on activity, campers will build a dog sled with an electronic twist! Campers will assemble their dogs and sleds from kits made in our laser cutter, before wiring up a motor and attaching some wooden wheels. We’ll finish the day by decorating our dog sleds and racing them around!
Maker Theme 2 - Snowman keychain + Snow fort catapult
Move over Frosty, there’s a new snowman in town! Today campers will spend the morning learning about the magic of laser cutting by designing their own snowman keychains in adobe illustrator. Campers will each have a turn engraving their designs onto a piece of white acrylic and flood painting them to make them stand out. In the afternoon we’ll build miniature snow forts, each fitted with their own snowball catapult! Talk about a winter wonderland!
Minecraft & Making Theme 1 - Minecraft
All aboard! In this activity, we’ll combine electronics with construction by building a minecart to transport inventory, or travel through the mines at lightning speed! Campers will learn the workings of basic electronics and then put their knowledge to work by wiring up a single axis motor to power their minecart. We’ll wrap up the day by exploring the mines in our Maker Bean Minecraft server! Wheeeeeeee!
Minecraft & Making Theme 2 - Polar bear piggy bank
Journey with us to Minecraft’s icy biomes and build a polar bear to celebrate the snowy season! In the morning, campers will receive kits from our laser cutter with all the pieces they need to assemble this fuzzy and ferocious mob! In the afternoon we’ll have a Minecraft gaming session in our Maker Bean server where campers can play together in the same world! Watch out for cubs!
