Week 1: Laser Cut Bag Tags
We’re kicking off the back to school season with a crash course in Adobe Illustrator! Campers will learn all the basics for creating their own custom bag tags as well as some advanced skills like creating repeating patterns and clipping masks. Campers will receive their custom laser cut creations the following week to wear proudly on their backpacks or keys!
Week 2: Apple Plushies
Today Maker Bean campers will sew and decorate their own falling apple plushies to celebrate apple picking season! We’ll practice our hand-eye coordination, problem solving and patience while we stitch together our apples to help us prepare for wiring up our own circuits later in the program! Maker Bean campers will also have the option to display their apple plushies on our fall garland for the community to admire!
Week 3: Coding with Scratch
Today campers will get a crash course in Scratch, a drag and drop coding platform for beginners and kids! Then we’ll learn how to code a simplified version of Geometry Dash!
Week 4: Running Capybara
Back by popular demand, campers will use motors, batteries, and laser cut pieces to build everyone’s favourite giant rodent, a running capybara! We’ll have a quick lesson about circuits before wiring up our own single axis motors and building the bodies of our capybaras! Then we’ll wrap up the day with a capybara race!
Week 5: Undead LED diorama Part 1: Glowing 3D prints for Halloween!
It’s officially Halloween season at the Maker Bean! Campers will be completing our most ambitious project yet, a 3-part diorama with custom laser cut and 3D printed pieces designed by your child AND a functional light they’ll wire up themselves! We’ll start by designing a transparent 3D printed ghoul that will glow when we install some LEDs in them later!
Week 6: Undead LED diorama Part 2: Custom Laser Cut Tombstones for Halloween!
Today campers will continue their 3D part Undead Diorama by designing a custom tombstone for their zombies, vampires, and ghosts in Adobe Illustrator! Once our tombstone designs are done we’ll engrave campers' custom designs onto wooden pieces with our laser cutter!
Week 7: Undead LED diorama Part 3: Assembling our Diorama
Today campers will receive all the pieces they designed last week and the week before and get to work putting them all together to create our dioramas! Then we’ll learn how to wire up our LEDs to make our 3D printed ghosts and ghouls glow before finishing the day by decorating our dioramas!
