Detailed description of themes
Maker Theme 1: Snail bot + slime
Campers will learn how every day objects can be recycled into amazing inventions. We’ll begin the day by sculpting our snail shells from air dry clay, then we’ll wire up our vibrating motors to make our snails go. Finally we’ll attach our motors and shells to our tiny tooth brush heads to be our snail's feet! Once completed we’ll finish our day by making snail slime!
Maker Theme 2: Enchanting table + Minecraft
For beginner or advanced Minecraft players! Today campers will build an enchanting table and rotating book, no lapis needed! Campers will wire up their very own motors, then assemble their enchanted tables from pieces made in our laser cutter. We’ll complete our creations with enchanted spell books to float above our tables! Once we’ve finished building our enchanting tables, we’ll log onto Minecraft and try to build some in the game!
Maker Theme 3: Custom wildlife wobble bots
In this 2 part activity, campers will combine graphic design with hands on assembly to create a custom wild life wobble bot. Campers start the day with a crash course in adobe illustrator where they will design the face and body of their bot. They can also choose from a variety of arms, feet and ears to bring their animals to life! Once campers’ designs have been cut out in our laser cutter, we’ll get to work assembling and wiring up a single axis motor to make our bots jump around!
Maker Theme 4: Frog Bot + Minecraft
To jump start our March Break we’ll be building jumping frog bots! Campers will learn the workings of basic electronics and then put their knowledge to work by wiring up a single axis motor to power their frog bot, then we’ll assemble our frog bot's body and legs so it can hop around! We’ll wrap up the day by going on a frog hunt in Minecraft.
Maker Theme 5: Musical Carousel
In this activity, campers will combine digital design with hands-on building to create a custom musical carousel. The day will begin with a crash course in adobe illustrator, where campers will design characters to ride their carousel. Once their characters are complete, we’ll bring them to life with the help of our laser cutter and get to work building! We’ll learn about how music boxes make sound with elastic force and vibrations, then we’ll assemble our carousels complete with our custom riders and music boxes installed inside.
