Have your child spend their Summer Break meeting new friends & learning tech skills at The Maker Bean Cafe at 1052 Bloor St. West! Using tools such as laser cutters, 3D printers & wood-working tools, and with 1 laptop per child, your children will create something straight out of their imaginations!
Summer camps run from June 29 - Aug 28, 2026 inclusive in full-week, 5-day sessions (except June 29-July 3 and Aug 4-7, which are 4 days due to statutory holidays).
We have 2 Maker Week themes & 2 Minecraft Week themes - if signing up for multiple weeks, we recommend signing up for different themes (e.g., Maker Week 1 & 2, Minecraft Week 1 & 2, or any Maker Week & any Minecraft Week!) Descriptions of each activity below, and all weeks have a mix of both hands-on and laptop-focused activities.
For kids 6-12 years old, both experienced & new makers alike.
Kids also head outdoors for at least 1.5 hours per day to Dufferin Grove or Dovercourt Parks (5-minute walks from The Maker Bean) for active games & fresh air. Please ensure your kids are dressed for the appropriate weather.

Maker Theme 1: June 22-26, July 6-10, Aug 4-7 (4 days)
Monday - LED house diorama
Today campers will create dioramas of their dream homes with laser cut pieces and working lights! In the morning we’ll learn about circuits by wiring up an LED to a switch to make our dioramas shine bright! Then we’ll paint our pieces and assemble our houses before installing our lights and decorating to reflect our personalities!
Tuesday - Laser Cut Bubble Wands and Bubble Solution Science
Today campers will complete 2 fun bubble activities! We’ll start the day by designing our own custom bubble wands in Adobe Illustrator, then we’ll use our later cutter to cut our bubble wands out of acrylic! In the afternoon we’ll have a Maker Bean lab session, where campers get into groups for a chemistry competition to see who can create the best bubble solution!
Wednesday - DIY Kaleidoscopes
Today campers will learn about light reflections by assembling their own kaleidoscopes. We’ll paint all our pieces then assemble our laser cut mirrors to form the body of our kaleidoscopes. Then we’ll build our lenses and fill them with beads, gems and other sparkly things to create amazing illusions when we look through the kaleidoscopes!
Thursday - Custom Laser Cut plushies
In this 2 part activity, campers will combine digital and hands on making to create their own custom laser cut plushies! We’ll start the day in Illustrator where kids will decide what kind of plushie they’d like to make. Then we’ll learn some more advanced tools to create cutlines and sewing holes! Finally we’ll cut out our designs from felt, sew them, stuff them and decorate them!
Friday - Motorized Yellow Submarine Model
To wrap up our week, campers will learn about motors and what makes vehicles go in this groovy activity! We’ll colour in our pieces and wire up a battery to a single axis motor. Then we’ll assemble our submarine models with our motors inside and add wheels so they can adventure around!
Maker Theme 2: July 20-24, Aug 17-21
Monday - Lasercut Marble Launcher Game
To kick off the week campers will assemble their own marble maze skee ball game. We’ll learn about physics and momentum while we build our games out of laser cut pieces and cardboard. Then we’ll decorate our games and test them out by playing with our friends.
Tuesday - 3D printing & Elephant toothpaste
Today we have two fun activities to ignite your child's imagination! We’ll start the day by learning how 3D printers work, as well as what makes for a successful 3D print. Then we’ll log onto TinkerCAD - a 3D modelling platform for beginners and kids - to make our own custom 3D creations. In the afternoon we’ll set up the Maker Bean lab for a fun and explosive chemistry experiment using household ingredients to make elephant toothpaste!
Wednesday - LED Plant Model
Today we’ll learn about plant biology by creating models of bioluminescent plants that really glow! We’ll start the day by learning how to wire up an LED and building the bases for our plants. Then we’ll start crafting our plants and their environments out of felt, paper and other crafting materials.
Thursday - Coding a Dinosaur Game and Salt Dough Fossils
Today campers will travel back to the mesozoic era with two fun digital and hands-on activities! In the morning we’ll learn to code a fun dinosaur themed game in scratch - a drag and drop coding platform for beginners and kids! In the afternoon we’ll make our own salt dough and use it to create fossils!
Friday - Motorized Mario Kinetic Sculpture
In this activity campers will combine art and engineering to create amazing kinetic sculptures! We’ll learn about gears and motors, then use what we learned to assemble a multi part system to make Mario and his friends jump around! Then we’ll colour our pieces in and add our final touches with a variety of crafting materials!
Minecraft + Making theme 1: June 29 - July 3 (4 days), July 27-July 31, Aug 24-28
Monday - Lasercut Minecraft Keychains
Today campers will use Adobe Illustrator to design their Minecraft skins as keychains. We’ll have a quick lesson on Illustrator tools and digital drawing before getting started on our designs. Then each camper will have a turn using the laser cutter to engrave their designs on a piece of birch before decorating and attaching a key ring or string! In the afternoon we’ll all join our private Maker Bean Minecraft server and play Minecraft together!
Tuesday - LED Minecraft Glow Squid
Today Campers will Learn about circuits and LED’s by building their own glow squids! Campers will wire up an LED, then assemble their squids out of laser cut pieces and felt. In the afternoon we’ll all join our private Maker Bean Minecraft server and play Minecraft together and go on a squid hunt!
Wednesday - Minecraft Inspired Animations
Today campers will learn about animation by creating exploding tnt gifs in Wick Editor - a drag and drop 2D animation platform for beginners and kids. In the afternoon we’ll all join our private Maker Bean Minecraft server and play Minecraft together!
Thursday - Minecraft Potion Sun Catchers
Today campers will create Minecraft Potion Suncatchers from acrylic pieces and translucent colourful tiles. We’ll seal our pixelated designs into a clear frame, then add some string to display our suncatchers in our windows. In the afternoon we’ll all have a Minecraft gaming session together in our private Maker Bean server and craft some potions!
Friday - Minecraft Fox Motorized Walking Bot
Today campers will be building Minecraft fox walking bots! Campers will wire up a single axis motor, then colour & assemble the bodies of our foxes out of laser cut pieces before installing our motors inside. In the afternoon we’ll all join our private Maker Bean Minecraft server and go looking for some foxes!
Minecraft + Making theme 2: July 13-17, Aug 10-14
Monday - LED Minecraft Campfire
Today campers will learn about circuits by building minecraft campfires that really light up! We’ll start by wiring up an LED to switch, then we’ll assemble our logs out of laser cut pieces. We’ll use tissue paper to create flames
Tuesday - 3D printed Minecraft Mob Keychains
Today campers will get a crash course in TinkerCAD, a beginner friendly drag and drop 3D modeling platform. We’ll learn about how 3D printers work, as well as what makes for a successful 3D print, before designing our own 3D printed minecraft mobs!. In the afternoon we’ll all join our private Maker Bean Minecraft server and try to find the mobs we 3D printed!
Wednesday - Minecraft Slime
Today Campers will be making slime blocks! Useful in conjunction with pistons to move both blocks and entities, there’s nothing quite like them! We’ll begin by making our slime solution before adding our signature green colour! Once our slime is complete, we’ll all join our private Maker Bean Minecraft server and play minecraft together!
Thursday - Coding a Minecraft Inspired Mini Game
Today campers will get a crash course in Scratch, a beginner friendly, drag and drop coding software. Then we’ll use what we learned to make a Minecraft inspired mini game! In the afternoon we’ll all join our private Maker Bean Minecraft server for a gaming session!
Friday - Motorized Minecraft Sniffer Bot
To finish off our week, campers will learn about motors and propellers to create Sniffer Brush Bots! We’ll start by wiring up a motor to a 9v battery and attaching a propeller to make our bots move. Then we’ll colour in and assemble our pieces with our motors inside and watch our sniffer bots go. In the afternoon we’ll all join our private Maker Bean Minecraft server for a gaming session!
